چکیده

Application of high resolution electron microscopy (HREM) to the study of Pt-Sn/y-Al20 3 supported catalyst, zeolites, iron catalyst for ammonia synthesis, rare-earth oxide catalysts, etc., is described. Micro-twins, dislocations and other crystallographic imperfections are observed. Moreover, the structure images of channels representing columns of cages in several kinds of zeolites as well as radiation damage processes in them have been recorded in situ. The observed images of zeolites were found to be in good agreement with the structure model projections and computer simulated images.

Synthesis and characterization of Alumina (Al2O3) nanoparticles prepared by simple sol-gel method

Alumina is one of the most widely used ceramic materials as catalysts, catalyst supports and absorbents, and also wear resistant coating. This study focused on fabricating and characterizing of alumina ceramic nanoparticles fabricated using new and simple sol-gel method. Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticles were synthesized by iron (III) nitrate 9-hydrate as precursor. Physicochemical properti...

Catalytic decomposition of CF4 over copper promoted mesoporous catalysts

A series of mesoporous catalysts (MCM-41) promoted by copper oxide nanoparticles were prepared by the co-precipitation method and tested for the decomposition of carbon tetrafluoride (CF4). The addition of copper oxide nanoparticles to MCM-41 led to an improvement in the catalytic activity for CF4 decomposition. The catalyst was the most active around 5 wt% copper oxide added to MCM-41. Methods...

Reflections on the value of electron microscopy in the study of heterogeneous catalysts.

Electron microscopy (EM) is arguably the single most powerful method of characterizing heterogeneous catalysts. Irrespective of whether they are bulk and multiphasic, or monophasic and monocrystalline, or nanocluster and even single-atom and on a support, their structures in atomic detail can be visualized in two or three dimensions, thanks to high-resolution instruments, with sub-Ångstrom spat...

Understanding the structure of nanocatalysts with high resolution scanning/transmission electron microscopy

Nanomaterials including nanoparticles, nanowires and nanotubes play an important role in heterogeneous catalysis. Thanks to the rapid improvement of the electron microscopic techniques and with the advent of aberration corrected electron microscopy as well as theoretical methodologies, the potential effects induced by nanocatalysts are better understood than before by unravelling their atomic s...
